Why Choose an Escorted Holiday to Denmark?

Denmark is consistently ranked among the world's happiest countries, and spending time there gives you some sense of why. The Danes have built a society that values quality of life - good design, good food, cycling infrastructure, a well-functioning welfare state - and this is visible in the details of daily life in a way that makes Denmark genuinely pleasurable to visit. Copenhagen is one of the world's great small capitals: compact, walkable, with some of the best food in Europe and a collection of museums and cultural institutions that punch well above their size.

Beyond Copenhagen, Denmark tends to surprise British visitors. The white sand beaches of the west Jutland coast, the medieval town of Ribe, the Viking heritage at Roskilde, the castles and manor houses of North Zealand - the country has more to offer than its relatively modest profile in the British travel market might suggest. A guided tour makes it easy to move beyond the capital and get a fuller sense of Denmark's quiet quality.

Best Time to Visit Denmark

May and June are excellent: long days, pleasant temperatures and Denmark's outdoor culture at its best. Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen opens for its spring season in April.

July and August are the peak summer months. Copenhagen is lively with outdoor dining and events; Jutland's beaches are at their warmest.

September offers good weather, fewer crowds and the tail end of summer. A pleasant month for city exploration and coastal walks.

November and December bring Tivoli's famous Christmas market, one of the most cherished in Scandinavia, and the hygge (cosiness) culture that Denmark is rightly celebrated for in winter.

Popular Destinations Within Denmark

Copenhagen - the Tivoli Gardens, the Little Mermaid statue, the Nyhavn canal district, Rosenborg Castle, the National Museum and the extraordinary food scene that has made Copenhagen one of the world's most interesting dining cities.

Kronborg Castle - the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet, on the northern tip of Zealand overlooking the narrow strait to Sweden. A UNESCO World Heritage Site with real dramatic presence.

Roskilde - the ancient Viking capital, with a UNESCO-listed cathedral that serves as the burial place of Danish monarchs and an outstanding Viking Ship Museum on the fjord.

Ribe - Denmark's oldest town, with a magnificent Romanesque cathedral and cobblestone streets that have changed little since the Viking age.

Legoland Billund - if your group includes younger travellers, the original Legoland in Jutland is exactly what you would hope for.

The Danish Riviera - the stretch of coastline north of Copenhagen, with beach towns, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and manor houses set in beech forest.
