Australia
Australia is world famous for its natural wonders and wide open spaces, its beaches, deserts, "the bush", and "the Outback". Australia is one of the world's most highly urbanised countries; it is well known for the attractions of its large cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Australia is the sixth-largest country by land area. It is comparable in size to the 48 contiguous United States.

Electricity
Electrical sockets (outlets) in the Commonwealth of Australia usually supply electricity at between 220 and 240 volts AC. If you're plugging in an appliance that was built for 220-240 volt electrical input, or an appliance that is compatible with multiple voltages, then an adapter is all you need.
Weather
Australia is so large that its climate varies widely. The greater part of the continent is desert or semi-arid. Only the south-east and south-west corners have a temperate climate and moderately fertile soil. The northern part has a tropical climate, varied between tropical rainforests, grasslands, and part desert.
Generally, the north is hot and tropical, while the south tends to be sub-tropical and temperate. Most rainfall is around the coast, and much of the centre is arid and semi-arid. The daytime maximum temperatures in Darwin rarely drop below 30°C (86°F), even in winter, while night temperatures in winter usually hover around 15-20°C (59-68°F). Temperatures in some southern regions can drop below freezing in winter and the Snowy Mountains in the South East experiences metres of winter snow. Parts of Tasmania have a temperature range very similar to England.
As Australia is in the southern hemisphere the winter is June-August while December-February is summer. The winter is the dry season in the tropics, and the summer is the wet. In the southern parts of the country, the seasonal temperature variation is greater. The rainfall is more evenly distributed throughout the year in the southern parts of the East Coast, while in the rest of the south beyond the Great Dividing Range, the summers are dry with the bulk of the rainfall occurring in winter.
Baggage
Baggage allowance will normally be 20kg this will be dependent on the airline you are travelling with. Please ensure you adhere to current aviation regulations. Please remember that passengers will have to carry their luggage to and from the coach to the hotel room.
Clothing & Accessories
During summer months, it is advisable to wear light garments and perhaps keep a light jacket or sweater handy. It is advisable to carry a light waterproof jacket or umbrella, as well as a hat or cap.
For tours including excursions to mountaintops, it is advisable that passengers carry appropriate clothing warm waterproof jacket and extra layers of clothing.
Passengers should also carry travel adapters so they can charge their electronic items in their hotel room (as the sockets in Australia and elsewhere vary from those in the UK).
Passengers may also want to carry a small travel iron, hair dryer, kettle etc, as many hotel rooms will not have these facilities.
Your mobile phone may be able to receive calls whilst on holiday, you can check with your network operator to switch on the roaming feature of your mobile, there is usually an additional charge to receive incoming calls whilst aboard.
Please ensure you carry all medication you will need on tour as well as names and doses of medications you are taking or copies of prescriptions.
Currency
The Australian dollar (AUD) is the currency of the Commonwealth of Australia. Passengers should exchange any spending money for their holiday before they actually travel. Whilst on tour it is very inconvenient and not all places you will visit will have ATM machines or accept credit/debit cards.
Travel Insurance
Star Tours strongly recommends you purchase travel insurance. Passengers are advised not to carry unnecessary valuables and to be vigilant at all times as tourist spots are well known targets for pick pockets. It is advisable to make copies of your visas and passports prior to travel.
Cancellation of Tour
Please note that if you for any reason need to cancel you tour, please let us know as soon as possible, this will help reduce the amount of cancelation charges you may have to pay. Cancelation charges will be as per the terms and conditions which you can find on our website or brochure.
