The rise of online booking platforms has made it easier than ever to plan a holiday independently. Flights, hotels, transfers - a few hours with a browser and a credit card and it is theoretically done. So why do hundreds of thousands of UK travellers still choose escorted coach holidays every year?
Here are ten reasons that hold up to scrutiny.
1. The Real Cost Is Often Lower
Escorted holiday pricing looks higher on paper than a flight-and-hotel combination booked independently. In practice, the comparison is almost never like for like.
A reputable escorted holiday includes hotel accommodation, most meals, all transport between destinations, entrance fees to many attractions, and tips for guides and drivers. When you add those costs to a DIY trip, the gap closes significantly - and often reverses.
2. Indian Meals Are Included
For many of our passengers, this is the deciding factor. On a DIY trip to Europe, finding quality Indian food outside major cities can mean searching, settling or going without. On a Star Tours escorted holiday, Indian meals are built into the itinerary - typically three or more dinners per week, with vegetarian and Jain options confirmed before you depart.
You do not need to worry about it. It is sorted.
3. You See More in Less Time
Coach holidays cover distances that would require several flights, car hire arrangements or train bookings if handled independently. A well-designed 10-day itinerary through northern Italy might take in Venice, the Dolomites, Lake Garda and Verona - a combination that would require considerable logistical effort to replicate without a group.
The coach moves you while the destination rolls past the window. Those hours are not wasted.
4. No Decision Fatigue
One of the underappreciated costs of independent travel is the continuous stream of small decisions it demands. Which hotel? Which route? Which restaurant? How early to leave for the airport? A coach holiday makes most of these decisions for you - sensibly, by people who know the route - and frees your energy for the actual experience.
5. ABTA and ATOL Protection
Booking directly with an airline or hotel gives you very limited recourse if either business fails. Package holidays sold by ABTA members carry statutory financial protection: if the company fails, you are protected and either continue your holiday or receive a refund.
For long-haul and flight-inclusive holidays, ATOL protection provides additional cover. All Star Tours holidays are ABTA and ATOL protected.
6. A Tour Manager Throughout
Not a representative you might meet at an airport transfer - a dedicated tour manager who joins the coach at the start and stays for the duration. They know the route, the history, the best places to stop, and what to do if something goes wrong.
On many of our departures, the tour manager speaks Hindi or Gujarati. Ask when booking if this matters to you.
7. Pick-Up From Your Local Area
Star Tours operates pick-up points across the UK, including Coventry, Leicester, Birmingham, Luton and London - areas where a large part of our Indian-heritage passenger base lives. You are collected from near home and returned at the end. There is no need to make your own way to a central departure point.
8. No Driving
In unfamiliar countries, driving can be stressful: different road rules, unfamiliar signage, the difficulty of navigating while trying to enjoy the scenery. A coach means someone else handles all of it.
9. Well-Suited to Multigenerational Groups
Escorted coach holidays work particularly well for families travelling across generations - grandparents, parents and children on the same trip. The itinerary is structured, the hotel is confirmed, the meals are sorted, and there is no disagreement about what to do next. It is a format that suits Indian family travel very well.
10. Less Can Go Wrong, and There Is Support When It Does
Missed connections, cancelled flights, hotel errors - independent travellers resolve these alone. On an escorted holiday, your tour manager is there, has a direct line to the company, and has almost certainly dealt with similar problems before.
